Welcome New Empolyees!
We have a new Volunteer Coordinator! Cory Johns is a great addition to our staff and we know you’re going to enjoy working with him! He comes to us via UCF and the great Cornerstone program where he was part of a team that granted a wish to one of New Hope’s kids in 2006! His team did a phenomenal job and it was during that process that Cory developed a desire to work for our organization. The kids at the Center for Grieving Children have already given us their “thumbs up” for hiring him! Welcome to the family, Cory!
Our new Adult Support Counselor, Margie Grebin, brings experience, warmth and compassion to New Hope for Kids, qualities that are necessary to help the parents and caregivers of the children in our grief program. She has a history with our organization… she was part of the first ever volunteer grief facilitator training that took place over 10 years ago! Margie is a registered marriage and family therapist, as well as the author of a number of publications including the book “Baseball Forever! A boy’s book on grief, loss, and healing”. Margie and her husband of 12 years, Fred, have 3 children. They also have 5 grandchildren, 2 who live nearby, and enjoy staying involved with them and their many activities.

Center for Grieving Children
The 2008 year has been a busy one for the Center for Grieving Children in Maitland. During the month of August alone, 69 children and 50 adults attended support sessions at the Center. Ten of those children attended the Special Circumstances Group which focuses on children whose loved one’s death was caused by homicide or suicide. Since January of this year, we have served approximately 148 families which includes189 adults and 237 children. We trained12 new volunteers to be grief facilitators. The children in our grief program are guided on their grief journey by these very special volunteers who commit to serving twice a month for one year in order to give consistency and a sense of safety and comfort to the children who have suffered such significant loss in their young lives.

Light the Night
Over the years, many of the families in our grief and wish programs have been affected by leukemia and lymphoma. The Light The Night Walk is a beautiful and very special evening event. Walkers will carry illuminated balloons around Lake Eola to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Funds raised will support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Children, adults and seniors are all welcome. This is a casual walk with no fitness requirements.
This year’s Light The Night walk will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008 around beautiful Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando. The event beings at 5:30pm with a festival in the park, followed by an illuminated balloon walk at dusk. Register now to get started in carrying the light of hope for thousands of Central Floridians.
